The Cycle

I came into this world without my consent. And I will leave it against my will.

A true line - if any. An example of resistance at every step. Most of us abhor change, mainly because it frightens us. The fear of the unknown, of what might happen, of failure, of social norms...

Obama was in the country... Still is, I think. I try not to follow his motions too closely. One part of me is still this pseudo-intellectual socialist who wants to pretend that I care. Or don't. Whichever way the wind is blowing...

And in this quest to ignore the most powerful (and un-ignorable) man in the world, I found out what a true challenge it was. Ignoring Obama. It's like Finding Neverland. Almost impossible.

His brooding face glares out at us from hoardings. His dashing smiles flashes at us from the backs of rickshaws. His comments, as inane as they come, blare from every news channel, BBC & CNN included. His comments on Pakistan, or lack thereof, his choice of hotel, the places he visited, his clothes, his wife's clothes, her game of hop-scotch...

Everything done in front of the media with the express purpose of us noticing, paying attention, listening... But to what? What has he said that wasn't expected? What has he done (other than dance) that is worthy of our thoughts, our time, our intelligence?

He has been diplomatic in the extreme, said and done the right things, had a pleasant visit. We, the true Indian hosts, smiled and agreed to everything he said. Which was nothing.

And as long as you know it, that's OK....
